PS Atheism just says that there’s an absence of belief in God - whoever made this response to the dumbed-down atheist’s opinion on theism is completely neglecting the agnostic nature of most atheists and chalking their lack of belief or even their belief in the lack of a god up to a belief that without a god there must have been no other way, natural or supernatural to spark some sort of cosmic momentum. God is a name and term glazed with conflict by people’s particular opinions of it - so some people become atheistic because they reject those opinions they hold to be objective.
There is no objective take on god, but for practical purposes atheism is usually in rejection to the christian idea of god or Abrahamic God. Atheism is not an assertion that the universe began with nothing nor is it an assertion that all things we might consider to be supernatural are bullshit. It just means that there was no deliberate intention set out to create the Universe. Mono-theism believes that there was one and poly-theism believes there were many.
I try not to concern myself with what the original intention of the Universe may have been or whether or not there was one, I just believe in at least a god because there is an emphasis in my mind in the order that exists in the universe, and I just can’t bring myself to believe that the order wasn’t designed or intended purposefully. :D
Today is my last day at Vimeo. Starting Monday I will be working at Boxee.
I think one day Vimeo will be recorded in history not only as a cherished creative community, but also as one of the most important primordial pools from which many great talents originated. A sort of HP or Atari of the Web.
Casey and I have a longish relationship. We went to college together at Wake Forest (as well as his older brother Chad, who illustrated Vimeo’s famous landscapes, and my CV partner Ricky Van Veen). Casey and I collaborated to make Vimeo’s flash player.
Very pleased that Casey sought to join Boxee. Lots of fuel has just been added to the product furnace I’m kindling here.

The Obama administration recently announced it would defer to state medical marijuana laws and stop federal prosecutions of patients and providers who comply with them.
In California, the tanking economy inspired Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to call for debating marijuana taxation and regulation, a bill was introduced in Sacramento to do just that, and four separate ballot initiatives are circulating to allow voters the chance to decide the issue for themselves.
Schwarzenegger’s position was echoed by New York Gov. David Paterson and by Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, who suggested legalizing pot could cripple Mexican and U.S. gangs. The unprecedented momentum to question marijuana prohibition is being fueled by a widely remarked-upon phenomenon — the cultural mainstreaming of marijuana.
From Showtime’s established hit “Weeds” to the “Is Pot Already Legal?” cover of Fortune magazine in September, marijuana is commanding attention and an odd kind of respect for its sheer popularity and massive revenues.
